There is something rather special about the Jaguar E-Type. Its impossibly long bonnet, elegant proportions and unmistakably British character have made it one of the most recognisable automotive designs ever created. Translating such a shape into building bricks is no small challenge. And yet, the BlueBrixx interpretation manages to capture something that goes beyond technical accuracy: charm.

Building Purism

The building experience feels refreshingly uncomplicated. As a classic BlueBrixx Special set, it follows a more traditional approach, without printed instructions or numbered building stages. It requires a little more organisation, but that is part of its appeal.

Once underway, the construction is smooth, surprisingly stable and genuinely enjoyable. There is no unnecessary complexity for the sake of complexity. The model comes together naturally, allowing the focus to remain on the form taking shape rather than on elaborate building techniques.

Less Polished. More Personality.

The inevitable comparison is with LEGO's interpretation of the E-Type. And to be fair, LEGO delivers the more refined product. Its shaping is smoother, its detailing more sophisticated, and the overall execution feels more polished.

Yet I would still choose the BlueBrixx.

At roughly a third of the price, it offers a wonderfully convincing alternative. More importantly, there is something about its visual restraint and colour consistency that appeals to me. It feels cohesive, honest and remarkably charming. Not every surface needs to be perfectly resolved for a model to have presence.

Details That Matter

The model can be presented as a roadster or with its hardtop fitted, giving it two distinct personalities. The opening bonnet reveals a detailed engine compartment, with enough mechanical detailing to reward a closer look without overwhelming the overall design.

Its greatest weakness, however, is the wheels. They do not quite live up to the elegance of the original car. A convincing set of classic wire-style wheels would make a remarkable difference, and remains the one modification I would genuinely like to make.

A Matter of Character

The BlueBrixx Jaguar E-Type Series 1 is not the most technically accomplished interpretation of this automotive icon. Nor does it need to be.

What it offers is a relaxed building experience, a stable construction and a beautifully recognisable silhouette. Its imperfections are visible, but they rarely diminish the pleasure of looking at it.

Sometimes refinement makes a model better. Sometimes a little imperfection makes it more interesting.
